Number the Stars & Making the Cut
I read the book Number the Stars and Making the Cut. I found a similar theme in both of the books, the theme is responsibility. The theme is responsibility because in Number the Stars Annemarie has to take on the responsibility by making sure Ellen and her family is safe and not in danger. She has the responsibility of not telling anyone and being very welcome to Ellen. Also in the book Making the Cut Chloe has to be responsible and makes sure she doesn’t cheat and stop trying even if the work gets hard. She also has the responsibility of concentrating to make sure she stays in the competition.
Even though in both books there is a similar theme the authors approached presenting the theme in two different ways. For example in the book Making the Cut The author said throughout the book her responsibilities and if she wasn’t responsible the author told you what would happen. Another example is that if she isn’t responsible then she might lose the competition, also Nina is from where Chloe is from so she wants to be responsible by winning the competition for (her town). In Number the stars The Author took a totally different approach instead of telling you Annemarie’s responsibilities and what would happen she made you realize without telling you her responsibilities. For example If Annemarie didn’t succeed at keeping the secret and protecting Ellen and her family her best friend Ellen would be taken to a concentration camp. Without the authors help you can tell that it was a lot of responsibility put on Annemarie. Both books Making the Cut and Number the Stars have a similar theme the author’s just approach the theme in two different ways.
